Evelyn Young, Executive Director - evelyny@bgcm.org

Born into a military family Evelyn Young lived in Texas, New Mexico and Omaha, Nebraska where she found the Boys Club. She started attending Boys Club as a volunteer with older brother. The Club was 1 mile away from her house. The problem was, the Clubs in Omaha weren't open to girls yet so Evelyn outsmarted the system and became a volunteer. She received a Boys Club scholarship and worked for the Omaha Clubs for over 13 years. She moved to Danville, IL to become a Program Director then went on to open a Club in Bloomington IL as the first Executive Director.

Evelyn graduated with BS from University of Nebraska at Omaha, major Elementary Education and Social Work with a greater focus was Special Education. Evelyn's move to Memphis is part of her long time goal to make a shift to the south. Her greatest ambition is to assist our youth to realize their potential just as she did. In her own words,

"My sense of hope and opportunity came from many years of hard work and struggle, but I am grateful we had a mother who cared enough to send us to the Club, and a Club that cared enough to guide our path. Today, I am excited to be a part of the B&GC of Greater Memphis and to share a vision that is almost 50 years in the making and to continue to build a Club that shares and supports the growth for our youth, their families and our community as a whole."
